Shoot'em up (not to be confused with FPS)

Have a video game or or VG review? This is the place to to discuss it! We also accept discussions of board games and the like, but SHHH! Don't tell anyone, OK?

What, for talking about emulating after talking about stewardship?

Uh... I dunno, cuz I am too, as it turns out. :p

I would say not, because of the lack of high enemy and gunfire count. You have to have insanity to be a shooter.

Excoose me? Go play the final level of Star Fox Assault.

That was an example. There's plenty of craziness throughout the games. :p

Healing hands of God have mercy on our unclean souls
once again. Jesus Christ, Light of the World, burning
bright within our hearts forever. Freedom means love
without condition, without beginning or an end. Here's
my heart, let it be forever Yours, only You can make
every new day seem so new.

A splitting brow forced by the thorns
His face is writhing with the pain yet it's comforting to me

We already stated that Gunstar Super Heroes is a "Run 'n' Gun", though it does have some shmup moments.

I suppose that the "Free Range" Starfox levels are not very shmuppy.
Though the railed levels are, especially in Assault.

Anyone ever played the old NES game Terra Cresta?

Nope. What it be like?

And I thought of something else that could maybe considered as a "run 'n' gun":

Ranger X, for the Sega Genesis. I LOVE this game.

It's hard to describe. Basic overhead rail airplane shooter with funky guitar music. Collect expansions to your machine every so often. Get shot you lose the expansions, if you have none you die. Pretty laid back compared to most (It's NES, there's a limit to how many bullets you can have at once), but it does require a lot of skill.

And you could split your plane and its expansions up seperately and do cool stuff.

If you got all five pieces you turned into this firey bird thing and were invincible for a short time. In the main menu, you could customize your five-way split--the locations of the pieces and the direction they fired. You could have lots of fun mowing down the bosses in four seconds by pointing them all the same direction.

YEE-HAW!!! Somebody remembers that game! I own the actual cart (not a big deal - it's cheap) and I love it! Excellent graphics, deep gameplay...man, what an awesome game. Too bad GAU/Nextech didn't make more titles.

I did own it, but don't (stupid me...), but yes, awesomeness is the only word to describe it. I also find it interesting that the final boss was composed of ONE sprite (not counting his attacks).

And I keep thinking how it would make such as interesting movie/anime...

How could it be a good anime when it doesn't have a storyline? (Unless you've got a manual.) And I actually find the first boss to be the most impressive. My jaw dropped when I first saw it a few months back. It looked like an SNES game!

I'm just thinking coolness, though I could think of a few things that would fit in a storyline (like why that person was taken at the beginning and winds up being the final boss O_o ).

And yes, the first boss was awesome (and he be HUGE!!).
