Simply because N has patented ways of utilizing displacement mapping doesn't mean that really gives them an advantage, and it definately doesn't mean that multi-platform games will have to be "downgraded" on PS3... All current NVIDIA cards can do displacement mapping (Half Life 2 uses it) so if the RSX is better than those, it can too. So, yeah, they don't own a patent on Displacement maps at all... Just their method for utilizing them. I don't doubt that 360 can do it, either...

This thread seems to be bending toward hostility...
Not that it's anyone's falut in particular.

Anyway, I say again, for all we know, the revolution could be more powerful than the PS3 (however unlikely), and it's also possible it really is nothing more tham a "souped-up Xbox".

Wait, which one are you saying could be a "souped-up' XBOX? O.o

And yeah, it is getting a bit hostile. Personally, I don't care that much. I just thought this little tidbit sounded interesting, but more important is the gameplay, which is the whole reason for getting the Revo (and back compatibility :P ).

Of course.

But graphics must count for something. Otherwise everybody would still be playing N64 and Playstation, and Nintendo wouldn't bother creating a whole new system instead of making the revo controller for gamecube.

Oh, and about the "Souped-up Xbox" thing, I was quoting those "anonymous developers" who were stating "preliminary specs" based on "alpha development kits".

Is it possible for there to be less certainty?

Here's how I see it. Nobody should be saying things like "OMG, this console is going to be soooooo much better than this other console!!!". All three of these next gen consoles have different strengths and weaknesses.

The X-Box 360 is going beat the other consoles in the area of online play. I'm positive about this. Microsoft is way too dedicated to this aspect of the console. But it looks like they are still going to try to appeal mainly to the casual gamer, which means that the games for the 360 probably aren't going to be that innovative. Not to say that they won't be good, though. Alot of Japanese developers might skip out on this system, as well.

The Revolution will beat out the other consoles in inovation. They've proven that with the risks they've taken with the console's controller. The revolution is also going to be a great system for those who like classic games. However, they're probably going to be the least graphic of the consoles. They've hinted at this much themselves. Also the uniqueness of the Revolution's controller might scare away some developers.

The PS3 is going to beat out the other systems in the area of graphics. The PS3's Cell processor is insanely powerfull. You're going to see things on this system that you didn't think would be possible(especially in the later part of the system's life). Sony also has a pretty good online plan. Not as good as the 360's, but still good. Some developers may find this system to be too hard and expensive to make games for, though.

For me, my first nextgen system will probably be the PS3, followed by the Revolution and then the 360.

[quote="Myoti"]Good thing this isn't one of those. ]

Actually, -Someone might have stated this since I only read half of the thread so far- I consider this an Xbox 360 vs. Nrev (sounds better than revo) vs. PS3 because what I got out of the first post was:

"The Nrev is gonna have better graphics than Ps3 and Xbox360....Neeeeh!"

I may be the only one aware of this but some gamecube games have better graphics than PS2 games and vice versa. It`s about the game`s graphics not the system since the system doesn`t have graphics.

Read it again.

First off, I said the revolution -may- have better graphics than the other two systems. Not that it will. MAY. That itself makes this into a statement saying that "Revo's graphics being better than the others" is only a possibility. not a fact.

Second, even if I did say it -is- going to have better graphics than the other two, it still wouldn't be a Nrev vs. PS3 vs. XBox360 thread, because the first post in this thread is meant to start a discussion about the Nintendo Displacement. It did.

and

I may be the only one aware of this but some gamecube games have better graphics than PS2 games and vice versa. It`s about the game`s graphics not the system since the system doesn`t have graphics.

In most cases, it's not about the game's graphics. When we say a certain system's graphics are going to be better than another, we mean the graphical capabilities of a system will be better. If a systems graphical capabilities are worse than another's graphical capabilities, then it won't be able to display as many polygons on the screen at once as another. This makes for blockier graphics.

Ok I'm done. >_>

Doesn't mean it's going to be better. I doubt it's going to be anywhere near as complex as the 360's online plan. Just because something is free doesn't mean it's superior. You get what you pay for.

That's the point. It'll be simple. Not complex. The Revo is meant to be a system for all ages, and most older people would be turned off by a complex online play system. I know I don't want to deal with a complex system, I just want to put in a game and play it online with as little hassle as possible. So, as far as I'm concerned, Revo's online play smashes the 360's with a big giant squeaky hammer.

C'mon, guys. I didn't say it was going to be hard to use. By "more complex" I mean it's going to have a heck of alot more to it. Microsoft has made the 360's online plan with the casual gamer in mind, so it's not going to take a genius to just get online and play. If fact, those that have played say it's very easy and intuitive. It's going to have alot more features for those who want to do more than just play online. MS knows what they're doing in regards to online play far more than Sony and Nintendo. The Revolution is not going to be the best system in every category, guys. None of the systems are. Maybe the Revolution will kick the 360's butt in other ways(like innovation), but as far as online plans go, 360 wins. So far.

I just finished reading this post and all I can say is...wow ignorance must really be bliss......... I mean come on, shatterheart is right these topics are getting old and this board is becoming annoying with the constant "my system has this and its better then everything else so IT WINS" gah some people really need to see things for what they are and quite having blind fanboyism.
And this general attitude lately has turned me off to this part of caa, first time i have read a topic in this section in a long time....

Uh, Desperado... this is called an "update". We see something new we like about our system, we're going to talk about it. We tried to keep the fanboyism to only liking what we see, and not dissing the others (if that happened, then sorry).
