And by soon, I guess summer 2006-ish....which isn't really soon at all when you think about it(maybe we'll get it in spring).

Hopefully it'll be better than Suikoden IV....

I hope so. I was a bit let-down by Suikoden IV. It seemed really short compared to the last one. I loved Suikoden III though! ^^

For S5 they need to have a better HQ(4's was dull as heck), cut out the tedious sea travel, and make an all around better story. The only thing they need to keep from S4 is the excellent one-on-one duel system. If there is one thing 4 did better than the past games, it was that.

Ugh! I forgot about the sea travel. That ship was soooooo slow and the random battles every 5 seconds didn't make things any faster.

Ah, Suikoden. I made a thread for this awhile back.

Is the IIIrd one hard to find? I may pick that one up. I was thinking about buying IV but I figured the ones for PS2 were nothing compared to he original. I also heard this series has a top score in music. I know II and I cost an arm and a leg so i`m not gonna bother.

You can get Suikoden III for about $27 and I wouldn't think that it would be hard to find. I'm playing through it currently. It's quite good. I would definitely recommend this to PS2-owning RPG fans.

But, yeah, Suikoden III is your best bet as I & II are rare/expensive and IV is considered the worst in the series.

Now, I'm going to have to hunt down copies of the first two...

Ah... another Suikoden. I loved Suikoden once I picked up 2. 3 and 4 were total let-downs compared to 2, and 1 really isn't worth buying unless you absolutely need to play as McDohl (like I do!).

Also, If I'm correct, 1 isn't all that expensive. I bought it for $10 at GameStop a couple of years ago, but 2 is the real killer. I've seen it at $200 on ebay. But, I have to say that it's totally worth every cent. Given, I didn't pay but a tenth of that for the game, but still. Best one in the series by far.

Suikoden Tactics is another game if that`s not 5. Search it on Ebgames and it`ll tell you the exact date.

Thats good to know. Thanks for the S5 update. ;)

Why does everyone think this? If you spent any time at all reading the manual you would know that you can hold the R1 button to make everything speed up. There is no item to collect, or side quest to complete. Straight from the begining you can speed every thing up. So those 5-8 second battles arent such a big deal when you are moving at 10x speed... (not to mention you can collect the slash Rune or 'that other rune that removes low level random encounters' to make those battles fly by or not exist at all). This function also makes sea travel considerably more bareable and re-exploring a breeze. But, lets face it. We all use Viki once we got her anyway. ;)

Soikoden IV has many qualities that I wish every suikoden had. But my biggest gripe was that many characters seamed to have shallow stories, and were considerably less endereing then in the past installments.

Yah, anyway... GO SUIKODEN!!! ^_^

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

I agree about the characters. Most of the characters in the other games were much more umm...fleshed out? I became attached to more characters in Suikoden II and III. The only character in IV that I really liked ended being an enemy that you weren't able to recruit...although at the moment I seem to have forgotten his name. ^^; And just as a side note, was I the only one who thought the cat people just looked weird?! (I didn't care for their character designs at all)

Also, someone mentioned the music of the games earlier so I have to throw in my 2 cents and say that at first I didn't really like the opening theme for Suikoden IV, but it grew on me after a while. I looove the opening from Suikoden III though! I could listen to it over and over and...well you get the point.

The character you enjoyed was probably Troy. I too was disapointed that you couldnt recruit him in the end. :( <--- That was probabaly a spoiler...

I know what you mean about the openings. Suikoden III takes the prize for me when it comes to opening animation and music. While when listening to 4 I kept expecting to see a mermaid and that little crab pop up and begin singing 'Under the Sea.'
More just happy caribian music then what one would expect from an epic game.

Troy...that's it! I was sooo disappointed you couldn't get him to join your party. I played all the way up next to the end hoping I'd get to recruit him, but it didn't happen!*cries*

Yeah, the first time I heard the Suikoden IV theme, I was like umm ooookay, but then after I heard it several times, I actually started to like it and I guess it does fit with the whole ocean theme. I would have been very scared if that crab had popped up. That's when I would wonder about my sanity...and you just put an image of a Suikoden/Disney crossover game in my head. ^^; Oh well, it worked for Kingdom Hearts. lol

Off Topic: We`re probably aware that Kingdom Hearts combined with Disney because I`m sure we can agree FF is the most popular RPG series in the U.S. I think a minor point was to get kids into FF, and I don`t think Suikoden is that popular. No offence, it`s probably better than FF but it`s not as popular.

On Topic: Is Suikoden Tactics the 5th one?

No, Suikoden Tactics (known as Rhapsodia is Japan) is an upcoming PS2 Strategy/RPG. The game is based upon the time period of Suikoden IV.

I wonder if 'Suikoden Card Stories' will every come to the US? Unlikely I guess. :(

But I am interested in seeing our Suikoden Tactics will play out. The large battles were always a neat idea, but never well realized. Perhaps this will fill that void?

I'd say both are equaly good choices. S3 has a better storyline while WA3 has more fun gameplay.

This is interesting.
Konami is evidently porting Suikoden I & II onto the Sony PSP.

That`s awesome. II is nearly impossible to find. I might need a PSP though.

I`m going to the mall in a couple of hours. Quick, Suikoden III or Xenosaga Ep. 1?

If given a choice between just about any game and Suikoden 3, I would amost always go with the other game. Suikoden 3, and 4 for that matter, were not very good in comparison to 2. IMO, just wait for the PSP port.

I guess I missed my chance to imput, but I would have gone with Suikoden III if I were you. True that II is amazing, but III is still much better then Xenosaga Ep. 1.

If you decide not to play Suikoden III, try picking up the Manga some time (or just reading it in Borders), you wont regret it. ;)

Personally Suikoden III is my favorite Suikoden. I also like Xenosaga ep. 1, but I think I'd rate Suikoden III higher on my list.

I like fururistic RPGs better than Medevil-like ones. My top 3 favorite:
FF7
Xenogears
Star Ocean III

As far as futuristic elements go.
The only reason i`m hooked to Legend of Dragoon is because to me it`s the medevil FF8.
