Final Fantasy VII remake for PS3?

Have a video game or or VG review? This is the place to to discuss it! We also accept discussions of board games and the like, but SHHH! Don't tell anyone, OK?

I know most hardcore FF fans will want to incite a revolution and drag my carcass around the city walls for this, but I'm actually glad they're talking about a FFVII remake. I haven't played it and had absolutely no desire to until I heard this. I only played FFX because I loved the graphics, and that's the only reason I'd play a game nowadays. Sad, but true. My boyfriend is pleading with me to try FFVIII, and I'd consider it only for his sake. ^^;; So yeah, I for one am kind of happy about this, if it's indeed true. Highly unlikely that I'll ever own a PS3, but if I did, I'd try it.

Though FF7 isn't in my top five favorite FF games, I enjoyed it, and a remake would be nice, provided that:

They do NOT allow you to resurrect Aeris.

I doubt they would, as it would ruin the emotional impact of her death scene. However, you never know.

I'd also like to see the Materia system tuned up and made a bit better, as the Materia system was my second least favorite system of magic.

Mostly, though, I'd really like to see a more worthy FF title given the remake treatment (Tactics especially, 4 and 6 come to mind too).

FF7's translation was on par with Tactics'. For those who have played Tactics, they know what I mean.

"This sure was the right job!" on a job mission meant you horribly failed it. That was irritating.

My boyfriend is pleading with me to try FFVIII, and I'd consider it only for his sake. ^^;;

*whispers "FF9 is better!" in Ash's ear and runs off*

Back on topic, though, I feel they're overhyping 7. There's: Advent Children, Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, Before Crisis, and Final Fantasy Snowboarding. Come on, Squenix...do the words "OVERKILL" mean anything to you?

At any rate, I don't think a FF7 remake is likely.

Ok guys, even though I`m fully aware of what`s going to happen please all those spoilers regarding Aeris, please put them in spoiler brackets. Don`t ruin it for Ash if she chooses to play. FF7 is a great game, and if she knew that the most dramatic moment would be ruined.

Oh, and I want an FF7 remake. And a remake for every other old school FF. I can picture FF1 cellshaded as well as FF2 through 4. I`m betting myself 100$ everyone is going to disagree with me and if I`m right you all jhave to pay me 100$ and if I`m wrong I have to pay myself 100$ so either way I`m happy. :)

I`d like to see an FF6 remake for PS3 since I never beat the SNES one and I`d rather beat it for the 1st time in cool graphics. I know graphics aren`t what makes a game good but I like a good game with good graphics better than a good game with crappy graphics. Either way it`s a good game but graphics can make it better.

Ashley, FF8 IMO is my all time favorite RPG. I`ve made my final decision. I love the music, the graphics are acceptable even now, it has the best love story, best characters and it`s the most challenging 3D FF I`ve ever played (the 2D ones are usually harder). Listen to your boyfriend Ashley, FF8 is way better than FF10.

FF9 remake.....eh......I can see a sequel better.

Yes, Ash. FFIX is the severely underatted epitome of the best of Final Fantasy there is. Seriously. You will love this game. I imagine that romance would be a major selling point for you]Ok guys, even though I`m fully aware of what`s going to happen please all those spoilers regarding Aeris, please put them in spoiler brackets. Well, Ash has mentioned before she knows the storyline anyways, but I honestly get the impression that there aren't many gamers around both who've either been or not been through the game who don't already know about Aeris. So I doubt spoiler tagging it would be very neccesary, I could be wrong though....
Oh, and I want an FF7 remake. And a remake for every other old school FF. I can picture FF1 cellshaded as well as FF2 through 4.
I wouldn't be against remakes of those games, but I think they are fine just the way they are. (7 is the exception, I for one would immensly enjoy a remake) The only one otherwise I would really prefer to see completely remade would be Final Fantasy I:

I would enjoy a remake that literally redid everything from the ground up. Get some set characters; perhaps use the Seiken Densetsu 3 system: In SD3, you were shown all 5 (or 6; can't remember how many) of the main characters at the start screen and could choose three of them. Each starting character began the game in completely different parts of the world, but ended up ultimately in the same place and the others you chose joined you at certain points at the game. The ones who weren't chosen still made cameo appearances at various points.

I would also love for a remake of FF1 adopt a true plot and have developed characters as in the rest of the series. It's not going to happen though due to FF Origins on the PSone....

Not on my current paycheck, I'm afraid. :waah!:

I can agree with you here. I loved this game, and as I see it, there is absolutely no need to redo it at all. FF7 I understand the need for a remake because it honestly needs a graphics overhaul. (And a decent translation for you non importers). But 9 was good enough on it's own. A sequel might be interesting, as long as it continues the original story in a believable way and stays fresh and interesting.

I agree with much of what Azier says. There is really no point in remaking Final Fantasy IX. Final Fantasy VII, however, could use a remake. It was made when they were first experimenting with the capabilities of the Playstation hardware.

I don't really mind sequals to any of the Final Fantasy games, as long as S-E doesn't fall into the trap of Capcom, who releases nearly identical Megaman Battle Network sequals every year, and Disney, who releases sequals to virtually all of their animated movies no matter how terrible the idea is in the first place.......

I am fairly indifferent on remaking any of the NES/SNES Final Fantasy games, although given the fact that S-E remade Romancing SaGa 3 for the PS2, I guess such a thing is possible...

BTW Tom, I appreciate your sincere concern for me, but I personally am good to go...I know just about all the major story points in FF7. But hey, it was a nice thought and I appreciate it. ^^

And as far as next in line, FFX-2 is definately next. After that, it's up for grabs. XD

Both VIII and IX were pretty good as they were. While a remake would be nice for them, FFVII really needs it more. Better graphics, updated music (orchestration!!!), better translations, and possibly doing voices would turn an already fairly good game into an amazing one.

I still think a spoiler tag would be neccassary seeing that it`s a spoiler.

FFVIII-2, me thinks would rock more. Or a prologue conserning Laguna, or a remake owuld be decent. Me is dying to see Seifer in FFX style grahpics.

Um...Ashley, FFX-2 is a real ruiner of FFX. Unless, you are wondering if Tidus comes back or not which is the only reason I bought it.

I would highly suggest FFVIII. There was something about that game that just made it my favorite. It starts out with an average storyline but towards the end of Disc 1 (Discs in FF8 are really short, there`s 4) it becomes my favorite. It`s harder than FFX a little so beware. Oh and the whole romantic stuff in FF9 doesn`t come close to Squall and Rinoa. That`s the only game I actually enjoyed al ove story in a video game, usually I find them ultra corney. The romance in FFX was weird considering Yuna didn`t even know Tidus` name.

Taken from my comedy fanfiction The Cid Highwind Show:
----------------------------------------------------
Guy: Will You Yuna take this man to be your husband?
Yuna: I do.
Guy: Will you....um groom take Yuna to be your wife?
Tidus: You betacha.
Guy: Now kiss.
Yuna: I love you, uh....um what`s your name.
Tidus: uh.....my dad used to call me kid and wakka calls me brotha.....um.....OH it doesn`t matter you`ll just be calling me honey for the rest of our lives anyways.

-----------------------------

Yeah....

Back on topic, to sum it up:

FF7 Remake: Nod.
FF8 Remake: Shrug.
FF9 remake: Shakes head.
FFX remake: In "FF10" years.

Eh, I differ in opinion slightly, I didn't like the romance between Squall and Rinoa.

Zidane proved countless times that he was willing to go the extra distance, to do whatever it took to protect Garnet. Squall never showed that kind of concern for Rinoa. In fact, when the SeeD soldiers took Rinoa away, Squall just stood there and watched them.

If it had been Zidane, he would've jumped right in and rescued her, but not Squall, he just stands there and has an inner monologue.

Well, that's my opinion, at least. ^^

This could have been a bit of BS I came across not to long ago, but I read that supposedly EXP is the exact same for each level making it incredibly easy to get to level 99 on the first disk. It's been forever since I've played it, and I don't at the moment have a copy on hand to confirm or not....

Fun fact: Azier's main peeve with FF8: Long, extravagant summon sequences that are awesome to behold the first time you summon each GF, and suicide inducing frickin irrititating on the 100th time with no way to turn the animations off.

You are correct, but I wouldn't recommend leveling that high. The levels of the majority of enemies are based directly on your levels, so leveling to Lv. 99 would actually make the game harder. And unfortunately a Level 99 Ruby Dragon's fire breath attack or whatever causes 9999 damage...making it impossible to survive...
That annoyed me... as FFVIII is one of the few RPGs where I actually bothered to max out the levels of some of my characters.

True, but that was used so you could charge up your attacks (still was a little irritating, though).

To make the enimies stronger. You`re supposed to "avoid leveling up in FF8" and just junctioning the highest spell to your health and weapon. Just don`t use the spells that are junctioned....um can we continue this in my FF8 thread?

Here we go...

Kitase: Final Fantasy VII remake will take 5 years
Speaking in an interview with American magazine EGM, Final Fantasy director Yoshinori Kitase spoke out about a potential Final Fantasy VII remake, saying that if Square Enix were to seriously pursue such a project, it would require a staff of 300 and take 5 years. Nomura commented as well, stating that even if the team were to come together to produce a new version of the game, the various members are currently too caught up in their own projects to be able to reserve any time for it. EGM speculated that the possibility of a FF7 remake lies out of reach as long as the next PS3 game to be created is Final Fantasy XIII.

Source: http://www.squarehaven.com

So, yeah, it is extremely unlikely that we will see a Final Fantasy VII remake for a very long time, if one is even made at all.

*Sighs* I knew this day was coming. I have to admit that FFVII isn't as bad as I thought. I just started playing, and it's okay for now, but a remake would actually be kind of cool. I'm liking the plot, and materia is fine, but the graphics are dung.

Let`s see....you thought it was going to be bad? The most overrated FF game, as you say, bad?

I have to honestly say Chrono Trigger is more overrated then FF7 IMO. FF7 is tied as best RPG for me and Chrono Trigger I don`t think compares with them as great as it was. CT just wasn`t Square`s best game. I still loved it though and for an SNES game, I`d go with that.

An FF7 remake would rock but I like new original FFs more than remakes and sequels but both are cool.

No FF7 is more overrated.... you see 8 bajillion cloud or ff7 cosplayers.... At otakon I only saw 1... and that was chrono...

many new-school RPG players ever played much SNES rpgs...

Yeah, I can`t think of a single person i know whom has heard of Chrono Trigger. FF7 was a really good game and it appears the people here on CAA underrate it. I do believe a remake would make it Outrageously Spectacular (XP) but i doubt that will happen.
