A few newly released(in the US) PS2 games...

Postby HiddenWoodchuck » Wed Apr 09, 2008 4:06 pm

I just picked up Baroque(the Wii version... though, the PS2 version is out too) and Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis for the PS2 after work... was wondering if anyone has played these games yet, or if anyone is planning to get them? I will try them out after I play Rock Band for a bit... though, don't have time to play much tonight. So it will be a quick look at the games... was just hoping they were pretty good.

There are also two upcoming games on the PS2 that look fun. Arcana Heart - a 2D fighter... I hope to pick it up tomorrow or Friday... and Persona 3:FES is coming soon. The new King of Fighters has been out a couple months on the PS2, but it is really good also. :)

I have Baroque and it's a blast. It's not really an RPG, it's in a subgenre called Rougelikes.

One thing to be weary of while playing Baroque is that the point of the game isn't to beat it, it's to progress the plot. The only obvious way to progress the plot is to die, though that doesn't always work. There are certain things that you have to do and the only advice you get are cryptic messages that you may only understand when a cutscene occurs or you get an item.

Other than the Coffinman, who feels compelled to say g--d--- every sentence, I love Baroque. I love how you feel like the character, only knowing exactly what's being told to you by doing different things. I love going through countless enemies to get further down the dungeon. I can really see where one would hate it, though.

I'd recommend spending a while with Baroque before passing judgement, though. If you're like me, your first impression will be... well, not plesent. It gets better as you get use to the almost realistically slow combat, though (no, you're not like Sora who can defy gravity and swing a sword faster than a bullet and at leat three times per second).

So yeah. I hope you enjoy Baroque, because I'm loving it so far.

As for MK... I haven't had a chance to play it. Mind telling me how it is?
