Distressing dream

Postby Pigeon4x » Tue Jun 22, 2004 10:26 am

I hope this isn't against forum rules. I don't think it is. Anyway, I'm kind of upset about a dream I had last night. It was about evangelion (I know discussion of this show is banned so I won't go into much detail). I had sexual relations with 2 of the female characters. I don't know why I had this dream. I haven't watched evangelion since last year (only ep 1) or read the manga. I'm really upset about this. I don't know why it happened. Please pray for me.

don't be upset, my normal, testosterone-plagued brother. I'll tell you that dreams are ok, and here's why...
Dreams are controlled by the subconcious part of your brain... the midbrain I believe it is. In other words, there is no way that you can really control it. Indeed, you "see and hear and experiance" what is in the dream, and it feels like you are in control, but in reality you are not in control. Therefore, because these dreams are not your true actions of mind but are subconciously controlled, dreaming them up is not at all a sin. It is totally normal for a male your age (lol).
HOWEVER, it would be a sin to dwell upon what you dream in these situations: lust. If you have these dreams and continue to think about them when you are awake, praising them for how "good" they were, then it is lust. I see that your reaction to this dream is not a lustful one, but rather a repentive one. This is good, but not necesarry; remember that you were not in control.
I take it that you would like to stop having these dreams, eh? I'll tell you what to do... When you're lying in bed awake before you fall asleep, pray. Pray to God that he will protect your thoughts from evil desires and temptations, and that he'd give you a peaceful night of rest (Because you only remember the dreams that you have IF you are waken up in the middle of it!). James 4:7: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
That's a command with a promise right there. Pray to God and He will protect you from the things of the devil. I pray that God will protect you today from evil thoughts and watch over your dreams and keep them to things that would not glorify the flesh, but which would glorify God.

(note: the "physics" of dreams and how the brain works that I wrote in this thread are proven facts in biology, and I got them out of a Christian biology manual.)

Thanks for taking the time to post all of that. It just hit me a few minutes ago that I wasn't in control, but you post helped to further explain that. Thank you, you've really helped.

Hmm...well, I guess that's fairly normal for any guy, especially in the teen years, and the fact that you can't control the subject of your dreams. Of course, I'm a girl, so don't expect me to know the norm of teenage boy life. I don't know if any of you have heard of this, but some people are able to control what happens after their dream has started. They aren't always in control of what it is about in the first place, but are able to make things change the way they want to. These are called lucid dreams. I have them every now and then. It's pretty rare, not many people ever have a lucid dream. You can, of course, only have one if you are fully aware that you are dreaming; therein lies the reason they are so rare. If you have another dream like that one, try controlling it. It just might work! Of course, I thoroughly agree with everything frwl said, also. I'll be praying too!

Thank you all for the reply. Now that it has been mentioned I have heard of lucid dreams. A good friend of mine says he's had one. Anyway, its weird, last night I drempt I got expelled from my school for attacking a coach with a stick. This is all strange to me because normally I don't dream. I think my last on was in Feburary and then bang this starts. Anyway, at least the one lastn night didn't have as much sexual content (there was more to it than just attacking a coach, but the expulsion was the main part). Thank you for your prayers but please continue to pray.
