For one of my teens

Postby CDLviking » Wed Jun 09, 2004 12:46 am

I think she may be cutting herself, or may have in the past. I noticed marks on her arm while we were practicing a skit. When I noticed she seemed ashamed and became quiet. It hurts me just to think that she may be hurting herself. If anyone has dealt with this before I would love some advice on how to best help her, and your prayers as well.

I can't give much advice, partly because though I was tempted to hurt myself before, the verse about our bodies being temples always repeated itself in my mind whenever I contemplated that, so I never started. I will, however, pray for her and you as well.

I can't give you any advice really, but I can and will pray for you, and her as well.

CDLviKing,

I shall pray for her safety, that God will grant her peace, and that her mind will be open to the Word of God. I shall pray for you that you will have wisdom, the oppurtunity to help her, and that you will have the support necessary.

Should we ever 'fail', God already knew that. God is never suprised by anything we do or any messups we made. Ultimately God's plan is perfect and we shall spend our lives continously being suprised by what God does in our lives.

Our Mission: Continue to serve God and share the Gospel as best as we can. That is all. Don't worry for the end result is already written. Everything is in God's timing.

Our Responsibility: We must diligently study the Bible, pray often, and ask each other questions so that we may accurately communicate the Word of God.

I'll be praying, my best friend is a cutter too.

I found that all you can really do sometimes is just be there for them, my friend gets really mad and starts cutting more if you start yelling her about it, so you've gotta be careful about what you say. It's tricky ground to walk, to say the least.

Plus, the cutting is often a release for people -- it lets them concentrate emotional pain or grief into a physical pain that they can directly deal with.

This looks like a good article on the subject, based on my scant psychiatry training:

I will pray for her (and you).

Sorry to make you wait so long for an update. I talked to her and she is in counseling. I let her know that I'm always there for her if she needs me.

A very big thank you to everyone out there who prayed for her.

one of my best friends is also a cutter his arm is full of scars i try to talk to him but all he says is exatly what Shooraijin said... "phsyical pain feels better then emotional pain" every time and i just told him he was emotionally weak and well i guess that made him mad but he seemed to have stopped after that i also said some other stuff sort of reverse phycology or whatever... it doesnt work on all people though...

As a psychologist, I would not recommend telling someone they are "emotionally weak" or using "reverse psychology".

I will be praying for this young woman's healing, CDL.
