I visited two more apartment complexes in my area today. Results: one complex couldn't rent to me at all since I am a full-time student and am single and childless, but the other one I visited seems promising. For the subsidized units, there's a wait of almost a year, but if I find a roommate for the 2 bed, 2 bath unit, I can afford the rent and they have those available right away.
I'm just starting to get really discouraged. Every place I've looked at for subsidized housing, it's a wait list of about a year for an opening. Unless, of course you have a child/children or are pregnant --you get in ASAP in that case. But because I choose not to do the no pants dance until marriage and I go to school to try to get out of government assistance (i.e. so I can get a job), I can't get a place to live --even back when I had to leave the apartment very quickly --i.e. without shoes --because of the abusive environment.
The rules just seem unfair. I pay my bills on time, live quietly and responsibly --why not rent to me?
Well, I talked to a lady at my church group counseling class tonight and she mentioned that one local subsidized apartment complex has a list of all the subsidized housing in the county --and that she would track it down for me and let me know next week. If she can find that info, it would be very, very helpful!!
I mean, don't get me wrong, I am extremely grateful to have a safe place to stay --and not have to sleep in my car with Marzipan. It's just that I am 25 and had to move back in with my mother. I really would like to live independently again as soon as possible. With this place I'm looking into (the one I need a roommate for --or need to wait until after the 1st of the year), they accept pets, so I could possibly get Cecil back! And not have to jump through hoops to keep Marzipan.
