Homesickness?

Postby Destroyer2000 » Tue Jul 06, 2010 7:35 am

I guess that's what one would call it. See, I recently moved from where I used to live to a city closer to my college. My grandmother had moved weeks before because her Alzheimer's was getting to be more than I could handle, and my mother and brother had already moved to Louisiana to work. So, I was essentially alone at the house where I had grown up. As my mother would joke, "You didn't leave the nest. It left you!" In any case, I was totally free and on my own. It was exciting, but just so things would be easier I moved to Columbus and got an apartment with two of my best friends. Well, now things are starting to set in...while they can go home on weekends, I don't have anywhere to go. I miss the way things used to be, and while it may be childish, I am painfully homesick. Also, my roommates and I are not getting along very well, even though the three of us are best friends. So, I would just like a little prayer for the situation...this freedom is not turning about to be the blast I expected.

I'm going to be in a similar situation soon- moving away is hard, and most people will tell you that best friends don't always make the best roommates. Because usually friends don't stick around for extended periods of time, and can go home at the end of the day, you'll have a period of adjustment like any other group of roommates. Getting used to eachother's habits (both good and bad), and schedules, and little quirks that either didn't show when you were over at eachother's houses for short periods of time, or were easily glossed over because you weren't around it 24/7. But being friends means that you have some common ground, and that's always a good starting point.

It's not childish to be homesick at all, and you have my prayers that things will look up soon.

I'm moving away at the beginning of August after my wedding July 31. It's going to be hard, but God and my husband will be there with me :). I'll be praying for you.

Thanks, guys. Now I've found out they plan to sell the old house, so I can't even go back to reminisce. I'm guess it will just take time to get used to the change, but I do wonder how long it will hurt before it becomes a good memory.

Moving away is always hard, especially when you have precious memory in the house that you know you will never see again. But just as mentioned in the bible:

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21

There is no treasure on earth that will not be taken away in due time. If it is God's will that pushed me away from my nest, it could only be for a greater purpose. Pray that we will find meaning in a new environment and may God shown us the path of eternal life in Christ. Amen.
