After nearly a year of contemplation i've pretty much decided to fire my friend. i'd appreciate prayers for wisdom and calmness.

Oi. How long have the 2 of you been friends and have you told him yet?

We've been friends for about 3 1/2 years, I think. We are pretty close. Sometimes he seems like the brother I never had. Last year we each took one of our sisters and the four of us went on a 3 week canoe trip. On two occasions we've also split an apartment/townhouse for a grand total of about a year.

We've been working together for the whole 3 1/2 years. It's not really firing, we're drywallers/insulators and we both run our own businesses but we work together for efficiency. "I'm dissolving my informal business partnership with my friend" seemed like allot to type on my cell while at work. It is firing in the sense that i've looked after most of the business relations and been the one responsible for quality. Quality being the biggest problem I have with him.

I told him this evening before he went home. Considering it's been one of the hardest decisions of my life and I've been wrestling with it for months, it was kind of a non-event. Hopefully things aren't too awkward for the next 3 weeks until we split.

Thanks for your prayers!!

Well I hate to post and bump this over some of the newer, more serious threads, but I'll give a update.

I suppose I haven't ever brought the issue of quality out as a whole. Unfortunately I'm pretty non-confrontational. I have brought individual issues/instances to his attention and usually have got a response of "they're just picky" or "we solved the problem who cares?". Essentially we're not on the same wavelength, he's content with good enough and I want to do the best I can. There are other issues too. For instance, he seems to want to do lots of small jobs for quick cash while I'm trying to keep the big developers happy so we have a steady income. He's a risk taker and I'm not. Sometimes I think I'm holding him back and other days I think he's hopelessly optimistic. But this isn't the place to rant...

He seems to have taken the news well. The plan is to divide the tools when Christmas holidays start. His girlfriend started a really well paid job a month ago so if they are careful he'll be able to buy what he needs to work by himself. I'm still unsure if I made the right decision and sometimes I'm sad when i realize that we won't be working together anymore. I guess I just have to remind myself to trust the Lord to handle things.

Thanks again for the prayers everyone, I appreciate it.
