A Prayer For A Friend

Postby Squeakmaster » Mon Jun 29, 2009 4:34 pm

Title stolen from the song of the same name by Casting Crowns.

Anyway, our neighbor's son had a horrible four-wheeling accident and hit his head really hard, and that caused a ton of swelling in his brain...but he's getting better, it's started going down, so he's come back home, and I just visited him today. All that's different is he gets really bad headaches and has really strong medicine that puts him to sleep easily, so he's been much more tired. Also he said to make sure to wear a helmet. XD Regardless, what I'm worried about, besides that, is that he may or may not be a Christian, and I don't know! I'm so worried about him, but...there's never really been an opening that I've seen, and I'm not blunt enough to come out and say it.

Also, my church is really struggling. Financially, we can barely afford to pay the bills, and looking at the number of members totally explains it. We have maybe forty people in a church designed for (and originally having) over two hundred. My Youth group is basically non-existant; there were about eight or nine of us before they decided to make it high school only, which was incredibly stupid, as we were small to begin with, and now I'm pretty much the only one left. The rest don't come to church nearly as often anymore, simply because there's nothing for them to do. *sigh* I can't stand just watching my church die, but there's nothing I can do. I've prayed for months on end, but nothing...

I'm wierd cause I hate good byes,
I got misty eyes as they said farewell...

Everyone complains about how mainstream they are, but...they're still amazing.

Wow. I was once a member of a church like that. I'm said to say we decided to leave too, because our children needed a church with a Sunday school. It was a very disheartening experience.

Unfortunately in our case, it was largely self-inflicted. The church sat in the middle of a neighborhood which had become a mix of African-American and Hispanic, while our church was full of old white Southerners. (I think my wife may have been the only non-White in the congregatiion.) I'm guessing you can fill in the blanks pretty accurately from there.

ISometimes it's just time for a congregation to move on, but other times, it's just a sign to find a new path. I'll pray your church is able to find a good path forward.

For your friend, my prayers and best wishes. Those nagging headaches from head injuries can take forever to go away.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.
