Asbestos and mold

Postby 12praiseGOD » Mon Mar 02, 2009 7:11 pm

:?:Okay, I'm not really too worried about the asbestos and mold, but it is getting a little worrisome.

My neighbor's floor collapsed into the downstair's neighbor's bathroom to the point that the neighbor could see bath tub upstairs, and that was due to a giant leak therefore leading to a bunch of mold.

Not only is there mold, but we also found in the contract that the roof has asbestos and that it is protected by "painting" over it. Yeah right.:eyebrow:

Anyways, so today my neighbor came over to check this giant wet spot on the ceiling thinking of it being asbestos or mold and when she lightly pressed against the ceiling her had went through.

Also, I've never had alergies before and all of a sudden after 4 years of living here I get "allergies" being chronic cough. Now, the doctor told me to take alergy medicine, but I was not about to take it to make myself dependent on medicine.

So anyways, I found out that one of the symptoms of being around mold is a chronic cough, so I'm not sure if it is the mold or the allergies, just please pray.

Our apartment complex is kind of slow with maintanance so please pray that we will get this taken care of.

Also, if you have any suggestions, let me know.

God bless you guys!

Thanks a million!:P

It's probably the mold causing your allergies. There's a few types of asbestos and the one most commonly used to pretty much harmless, or it needs to be airborne (dust) to cause damage after years of breathing it in.

I hope they get it fixed soon. Having to stay on medications is a pain :\

Ummm...this sounds like a potentially dangerous situation. Not only are structural integrity problems dangerous, but mold can make you pretty sick after a while. I'll pray that something will get done about it soon.

Yeah, sounds like the water leak cause the drywall to swell and weaken. I wouldn't worry about the asbestos so much, especially with the dampness, since it does need to be airborne in large quantities to be truly harmful.

But that leak really needs to get taken care of. Neither mold or asbestos will make a ceiling 'soft'. Moisture does. Unless your ceiling breaks through too or you actually see black mold growing on your ceiling, you're probably fine. Hope it gets resolved soon.
