Prayer for my Father

Postby R. Zion » Wed Feb 06, 2008 2:22 pm

Well, I've been thinking about posting this for the last few days and K. Ayato asked if I did it when we spoke the other day, so I guess it's about time I posted this.

My dad works as a Truck Driver for Harley-Davidson. On Sunday he was down in Bluefield, West Virginia and had parked at his delivery point for the night til he dropped off the bikes the next morning. Seeing as it looked like a nice little town, he decided to go out and take a walk to see if he could find some place to eat in the morning. As he was walking down the street, he heard something behind him and turned to find a guy walking there. He said hello and the guy came up beside and asked if he had any money for him. Thankfully having left his wallet in his truck, he said no and turned to go when something hit him on the side of the head. At first he thought the guy punched him, but it would seem the damage was too severe for just his fist. It was bad enough to make him drop to his knee as blood flew and across the street someone yelled "You knocked him out!" He managed to make his way to a convenience store where they called the police, who then called an ambulence, which picked him up, retrieved his cell and wallet from the truck and then took him to a nearby hospital. The guy at the dealership had told him it was a safe place to park and rest, but sadly we never found out til he got to the hospital that that part of town was a big dope area.

He had told us he was going out for the walk and some time had passed since we'd heard from him so my mom got worried and called him. We got ahold of him and he was in the hospital. So, after making arrangements with his boss, myself, my mom, my brother-in-law and a friend/co-worker of my dad's (who would finish his deliveries), traveled down to West Virginia in my sister's van, a trip which takes, give or take, six hours and forty-five minutes one way for us.

When we got down there, we found out that he had five stitches in his lip, his cheek bones were fractured, his nose was broken in several places, the roof of his mouth was cracked, his upper lip got five stitches and his front teeth were loose, with a black eye to come a day or so later. We got him out of the hospital then and travelled home. We left about 9:30 pm Sunday night and got back about 12:30-1 pm Monday afternoon.

Today he went to the Maxillo-facial surgeon and we found out that tomorrow he's going to have to have his jaw wired shut and at the same time have the pieces of his nose pushed back into the correct position, I guess.

Anyway, I was wondering if you might be able to lift us up in prayer... for my dad's healing, for us financially while he's off, for forgiveness for the guy who did this and perhaps a change in heart for him. Thanks for reading and praying.

You know.. I don't really regularly post in this forum.. But after reading your story I must say that your father will be in my prayers tonight.
I shall be praying for faith and recovery.

My deepest sympathies.

I'll be praying for your family.

WV is usually seen as a quaint, backwoods place where modern life doesn't reach, but major drug lanes go through WV, particularly ones from Miami headed to Chicago and such, and more drug dealers are moving to WV to escape the police presence in larger metropolitan areas, and with them comes crime in general. I wish things like this were more well known; I've been warned by to avoid Bluefield by relatives.

oooo, how awful, well I pray that your father will get well, that the person will have a change of heart and in some way this incident will lead him to faith in Jesus Christ, and for you and your family to make it through spiritually and financially.
GOD BLESS YOU!!!

Footprints in the sand by Carolyn Joyce Carty

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the lord.

Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene he noticed two sets of foot prints in the sand: one belonging to him the other to the lord.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the foot prints in the sand.

He noticed that name times along the path of his life there was only one set o footprints.

He also noticed that it was at the lowest and saddest times of his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the lord about it:

"lord, you said once i decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But i have noticed during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of foot prints. I dont understand why when i needed you most you would leave me."

The lord replied:

"My son, my precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that i carried you."

Praying, bro. Thank God (seriously!) that your father wasn't killed.

mechana2015: Does that answer your question?

K. Ayato: Perfectly.

Thanks for the prayers and comments all. We really appreciate it.

As an update, it turns out today was just the consultation with the doctor and tomorrow will come the wiring of his mouth. It also appears that his upper jaw was broken too (which I'm assuming is a seperate injury from the cracked roof of his mouth). On the good side, the Maxillofacial surgeon didn't seem to think his cheeks were too bad and his teeth should strengthen up when his jaw heals.

His jaw will be 'wired' (really, they're using rubber bands) for 4-6 weeks and he'll have to eat through a straw until then.

Just keep praying, friend. Thanks as always.
