Decisions....

Today I got a letter from my youth pastor.

In brief, it said that my youth group is organizing a leadership team among the student body. It's a little complicated, but in short, our youth leader is moving to China at some point this year and wants to equip the more "spiritually mature" among us to be leaders in the present or in the future.

And apparently, I'm one of the more spiritually mature.

The letter was sent to 13 people in the youth group and he wants all of us to participate in some kind of leadership training once a month, plus assignments in between.

I.... Am starting to feel like he made a mistake on this one. Just because I help with every event there is, doesn't mean I'm spiritually mature. I'm NOT. But I know he probably gave considerable prayer as to who to send these letters to, in which case it isn't his decision, and is therefore not mine to question.

I just don't feel worthy of or ready for this or... aurgh. I'm just confused about the whole thing. I'm sure I'll participate, but I need prayers to... not screw it up, and feel coinfidence about the whole thing, and yada yada yada.

I don't think this is the sort of thing anyone really feels "ready" for. In fact, it'd probably be much bigger problem if you thought "Oh heck yeah, I am SOOO qualified for this" or something like that. A mark of true spiritual maturity is knowing that it's GOD who provides the wisdom and strength, not ourselves. As long as you don't stop asking Him for it, I'm sure you'll be fine! :D

People who show up regularly and can be depended upon are the solid foundation upon which a youth group develops. Even if you never mentor anyone, never "do" anything, the fact that you are "always there" is of huge importance. As you well know, the youth don't always respond too well to changes of any kind, especially leadership. Therefore, the glue that keeps this all together is the people that stay. Praying for you.
