Recovery

I had my ankle surgery yesterday. It went ok --the staff at the surgery center were awesome. I'm staying with a family from my church. They're amazing too. I've never felt so loved.
Anyway, please pray for me. Last night was hell. They did a block on my left leg to numb it and then it started waking up and HURT REALLY BAD. Worst pain ever. I slept for 30 min at a time b/c it kept waking me up.
This morning was better --still couldn't really sleep. But it started hurting REALLY BAD again this afternoon. Please pray that the pain will subside soon and that I'll actually be able to sleep more than an hour tonight.
On a light note: My recovery time will be half of what it was supposed to be originally. Instead of no weight on the leg for 6 weeks, my surgeon did some research and told me that after I have my cast put on on Monday, I can put weight on it as I feel comfortable. So yay~!

Dear Jesus,
Thank you for helping Sheenar with her surgery and everything! Please continue to heal her and stop the pain so she can rest. In Jesus name we pray.
Amen.

Does it help if you elevate your leg some? I got bad frostbite on a finger once, and I had to keep it held up to stop the throbbing for a couple of days. Maybe putting a pillow or two under your lower leg might help. Of course, you have to sleep on your back, so that might be wierd if you don't normally. Praying's worked pretty well so far, so let's all stick with it!

I've been having to alternate --elevate my leg for a while, then sit up for a while --that seems to help control the pain. I put a bag of frozen peas on it to help the swelling go down.
Pebbles has been looking out for me. I can tell we have a special bond. When I'm comfortable, she sleeps. But when I'm in pain, she's awake and looks worried. She walks up to me and licks my hand to check on me throughout the day.
I was told that on the day of my surgery, Pebbles was pretty antsy when I was in the back getting ready for surgery. But then she laid down and went to sleep. A few minutes later, a nurse came and said that I was under anesthesia. Then an hour later, Pebbles woke up and stared at the door. My surgeon came out and said I was in recovery. It's amazing how Pebbles could sense all that! I mean, wow.
But I have good news! I actually slept for 6 hours straight last night without waking up! Praise God!

Seems your recovery is going well. Praise God for that.
I've often wondered just how a dog perceives the world around it. We tend to look at all living things as having the same emotions and perceptions we do, but I doubt that is anywhere close.

Thanks for the update! It was good to hear you got a little rest. My cat would always stayed w/ me when I was sick, it was her way of making me feel better. I understand how your dog feels. It not easy when someone we love is in pain. Only thing one can do is show you care. Sounds like she's making you feel better too. Funny how God works, eh?
Best Wishes & Sleep well tonight. We care about you too.
God Bless.

Well, I'm back in my dorm now. I'm doing ok. Didn't sleep at all last night b/c of the foot. But it should feel a lot better when I get my cast on Monday.
My church family found a recliner for me to sleep in so I can rest comfortably. So that's a blessing! I have been unbelievably blessed this week! (Though it was one of the hardest weeks of my life, honestly).
But I'm surviving and am doing ok. Just have to try to rest and get ready to go back to class and work on Tuesday. Pray that I'll be able to.
I hope everyone is doing ok! Drop me a line and let me know how you are!

My foot feels like it's on fire. Please pray that I can sleep tonight. I didn't sleep at all last night and I don't want to go for 2 nights in a row.
Thank you!

I'm doing much better. I went to the ER last night (on recommendation from the other surgeon in my orthopedist's office) and they put slits in the sides of my splint (it's fiberglass) and stretched it a little so it's a bit more comfortable. (Which after talking to my surgeon this morning--he goes to my church--I shouldn't have had that done --but he said I should be fine --but he said that if my ankle is in the bottom of the cast, we'll lose everything they did --so please pray that everything stays where it's supposed to.)
I left there about 3:30, went home, and slept for about 3 hours. I was so happy that I got to go to church this morning! Since I can't go to my regular Sunday school, my church family (the one I stayed with) mom and dad and I sat in the coffee area and (with our college minister's notes) had a lesson.
I feel bad that I fell asleep during the sermon this morning, though.
Then I came home around 12:30 and just woke up at 4:30, so I feel much better! Thank you guys for praying for me.
I get my walking cast on tomorrow, so I hope that goes well.

This'll be short. I'm super tired. It's been a long (but good) day.
Got my cast on yesterday. Had it signed by the whole BSM leadership team.
I'm feeling much better. First day back in class went well--got turned in an elevator and couldn't get out --had to unlock my wheels on the electric wheelchair to be pushed out --so embarrassing:lol: LOL (I suck at driving the wheelchair) --fell asleep in my 6-8 pm class --felt kind of bad --it's an interesting class (on zoonotic diseases--I was just really tired from the day.)
I'm starting to put weight on my foot and have gotten to where I can stand on it. I just have to build it up a little more each day. My goal (the one my surgeon set for me) is to be walking in 4 weeks (then the cast comes off --Yay!) --so I have 26 days to get to walking --so exciting to have a goal to strive for!
Thanks for your prayers. Pray that I sleep well. Last night I had a hard time falling asleep.

I have had a pretty good week back at school. Back in the full swing of things (already have a ton of reading to do and a test Monday --but it's all easy work). The wheelchair has been helping awesomely --it handles great and goes all over campus very well (the horn is weak --I need to get an air horn to get people to move out of my way LOL)
I've gotten to where I can stand on my foot with more weight. Next step is taking steps using my manual chair as a walker. Just kind of scary b/c the balance just feels weird.
I've had good sleep (thanks for praying Sailor) and classes are going well.
My leg under the cast itches like crazy. I was told to use the hair dryer on cool for that -- sounds weird, but I'll try it.
I'll keep you guys updated on my progress in getting to walking.

Well, I went to the doctor today and they took my cast off and put another one on so they could put my foot more in the right position.
I go back in 4 weeks to have the cast taken off.
Until then, I'll just be walking a little further each day. I'm up to being able to take 5-6 steps with Pebbles' help. So woot!:)
