I have a confession...

Postby Sheenar » Fri Jan 11, 2008 10:46 am

I need to confess something to you guys. I've already prayed to God about it, but I need to tell you also.
Lately, I've been going through a phase where I've been so selfish and caring only about myself. I really did not care about other people --I'd read prayer requests and feel nothing for those people. God has convicted me about my apathy. My prayer life has been suffering --I just didn't care.
Please forgive me for saying I'll pray and not doing it. Forgive me for not caring. That is a wrong attitude for me to have and I repent of it. I prayed to God that He would teach me to care again. I just wish I could stop being so wrapped up in myself that I periodically forget about other people --God help me.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

"Since the creation of the Internet, the Earth's rotation has been fueled, primarily, by the collective spinning of English teachers in their graves."

I got ya in my heart Sheenar, and I can guarentee you aren't the only one who acts selfish. It's not something to be proud of, but unfortunately we all behave that way to some extent.

Besides praying, have you ever thought what life would be like without your friends? It's very depressing, but it does get you to thinking. What would life be without your dog Pebbles? Sure she's a dog, but it's someone besides you. Sometimes to just sit down and imagine that is all a person really needs. It makes you realize just how important other people are compared to you and really opens your heart to them.

Again, sure it's depressing, but afterwards you also feel better. Not just because you care about other people, but because God even gave them to you.

Yeah, I'd dare say that this is probably the most common sin in the world. I know I fall into it WAY too often. Good thing for us God doesn't wait for us to stop being wrapped up in ourselves to work on us, huh? Well, I'm praying.

I most definitely forgive you. God commands us to (Luke 11:4).

I also commend you for confessing and repenting. It is a great thing (James 5:16). I am joyful for you.

"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" - Christ the Lord (John 11:25-26)

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. - James 1:2-4.

Remember - the Lord will be with you - always. :)

We're all a little selfish at times. I think it is necessary. After all, no one else but me is going to look after my own best interests.

The fact that you recognize it and can tell when you go too far toward selfishness is a good thing.
