Changing majors ...again.

Postby PigtailsJazz » Sun Jun 17, 2007 3:48 pm

Hellooo, everyone. I am writing because I have really been at a loss this year trying to figure out what to do with my life. I have already changed my major about 4 times over the last 3 years in college, and now, as a senior, I've been planning to change it again.

Originally I was planning to change it back to music therapy (which was something I had switched it away from when I freaked out about it), but I've been unable to do so, and given the amount of work I would have to do for something that I'm not quite sure I want to make a career, I've been thinking I want to major in psychology instead. If I did psychology, I'm quite sure I could finish it in a year and a half, given the amount of credits I already have and trying to meticulously plan out what I should do. The only problem is that I haven't talked with an advisor in the psychology department yet. And I plan on doing that tomorrow during my break at work.

So...
I need prayer to be able to talk to the advisor and get cleared up exactly what I would need to do to fulfill the requirements I would have left for this major. I also need to see if it's where God is leading me and if it's what He wants me to do.
If it's what He wants...
then I need a lot of prayer for going into this department. My university is very lost...and psychology seems to be one of the most atheistic/antagonistic-towards-Christians departments at my school.

thanks....^^

[edit]
also, any advice from people who are/were psychology majors?

Well, I did 3 classes of psy^^ It was interesting. The saddest part of the class was when the prof asked us a show of hands of who thought there WASN'T life after death. Pretty much all but 3 of us (some hesitantly) did :/ The world needs hope v_v...

Well, hope this turns out to be your final go, praying...

I hope that by now, you would have some better idea of what you want to do. I've never really considered psychology as a field that's antagonistic to Christians (philosophy perhaps) but eitherways, I will pray.

I have friends who took psychology as their majors and are now working: One of them is in consumer and marketing research (studying the psychology of consumers) and the other is in special children's education (dealing with psychological disorders). Hope this helps. :)

Thank you so much!

I actually just talked to my parents and found that I can double major in psychology and music therapy....so that's what I'm going to do! I also have a good friend who is a believer and has gone through the whole psychology program (graduating this summer) that I can talk to about everything when things get hard ^^ I'm so excited!!! (even though it's going to add an additional year to my coursework/tuition...oh, well)

I will be praying that your double major works out for you.
