Well...it happened...
Mike got laid off.
They said they'd rehire him in January if the inventory picked back up...
So that leaves us with:
-no gas money
-no insurance money
-no tuition money
HEAVEN help us if Mike's car needs help! I already know he needs an oil change and my license has not yet been found, thus I'll need to purchase a new one....
Forget outings, gifts, or food.
So...guys...we needs help. Alot of help. Alot of prayer, alot of support, ANYTHING.
The good news is his father MAY fill out the FAFSA which would enable Mike to get a loan. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pray this happens! And Mike MAY get a job back at the theater (for WAY less money).
I'm kinda in shock mode right now. This was totally unexpected and vey shattering though I do have faith that God will somehow provide...

Well, I'm not sure it this applies because Mike hasn't been working long, but you might try to file for unemployment to keep food on the table until he gets another job. Do you live on campus? Can you do without a car? That's maybe an expense you can defer.
I feel a bit helpless with respect to this situation. My prayer study group guide I'm presently using says that the prayers of the helpless are perhaps the strongest. Well, then, strong prayers are being raised for you and Mike.

That's really tough. I'll pray for the both of you.
I work for a student-loan servicer on my campus; translation - I'm familiar with scholastic financial situations. I'll say a couple of things right away - Mike's dad does not have to fill out a FAFSA. Mike or you do. The FAFSA (federal application for student aid) deals with what financial support each individual student receives. Whether a student has parents who can/will support him/her financially can drastically change the amount of aid that can be received (whether the student is a dependent or independent), as can the individual income of the student. There are many different types of aid that you can receive:
-loans:
---subsidized- gov't pays interest while you are in school
---unsubsidized - interest accrues while you are in school, you can choose to pay for the interest while in school or not
---perkins
-grants: money that you don't have to pay back, there are TONS of grants out there from private and gov't sources
-scholarships
I would suggest that either or both of you go in to talk to your financial aid department about what possibilities the school offers. I might also suggest finding the student-loan servicer(s) on your campus and going in to talk to them, they can be very helpful people and can potentially help you find aid beyond loans. I would also suggest that both of you fill out your FAFSA's. It may be late, but you can still probably fill out for this school year to see what financial aid you are eligible for for next semester, and you should definately fill out for next year, the priority filing deadline is generally around March 31st.
You may or may not already know all of this, but I felt that I should throw it out there. If you have questions, I would be glad to answer or ask my boss, just PM me.

Well God does answer prayer! A friend of Mike's and I wrote him a check for $200! And his dad decided to employ him in his company and teach him how to do more complex jobs that would earn him alot of money until he starts college. His dad's really starting to respect Mike's decision, which is just a miracle in itself.
However, my family is being forced to borrow money to keep from going under as my house as yet to sell. My parents' relationship is dwindling and severely affecting Chu-Chu and our youngest sister. It's almost to the point where I don't want to go home anymore. Please pray that Mike'll find a job up here in Trinity and that our house wll sell! Thank you guys so much!!

Does Mike going to work with his father mean quitting school, or are you close enough?

Oh wow. I'll be praying.
When my dad got laid off we didn't know what we'd do. Then we moved and dad started working at home. It all worked out... pretty much, I mean, we're still living off what we can but it makes us stronger in God.
Take care!

His father filled out the FAFSA, meaning Mike can now get loans so he can still come to school. Thank God!
