Confused in faith

Postby Nikolai Melodie » Tue May 23, 2006 11:43 am

I've tried to learn about every religion I can, but I found that there have always been the ones that I just can't believe. In the end though, because I've studied so much everything I believe is pretty scattered...

Over the years, I've found that Christianity isn't the best for me...I've tried but I just can't. I believe some fundmental things but some other things just don't 'click' with me. Plus I've read so many of the gnostic gospels and other books from the times that it seems like things almost contridict each other or don't make much sense...

I wanna make sense of everything, but it always seems like my friends or other beleifs just get in the way...I mean, I believe in a single god (never thought about gender, etc) But my thoughts are so scattered about the afterlife or wether that god can actually interfere with people's lives...

*SHRUG* Someone just help me out? I'm not even sure if prayes will do any good, but I'm willing to take a shot...

Well, I'll pray for you. Don't worry though, I don't think God would have created you with a desire to know Him if it weren't possible. I can tell you one thing, though. The gnostic gospels aren't worth much historically. The four gospels of the Bible, however, are backed up with many many manuscripts to prove their accuracy and date back very close to the events themselves. Gamaliel is recorded quoting the book of Matthew, which is evidence that it was written and in circulation before 70 A.D. This contrasts with the gnostics, which date much later than the events themselves and were probably fabricated to give people grounds to take advantage of others. If it would help, I would be happy to talk with you about these things. I'm certain that if you're honestly searching for the truth, you'll find it.

I'll pray for you, Seleana. I hope that one day, hopefully soon, you'll find the same peace I have about all this from the only One who can give it to you. :thumb:
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

If you're having trouble reconciling your the Christian faith with what you've read from Gnosticism, I recommend reading the Church Fathers. They're the ones who went head to head with it back in the day.

It's a good thing that you're learning about every religion out there. I too am doing the same.

However I have a different stance than you. I believe Christianity is the only religion that DOES make the most sense.

Every single religious system, must answer to these 4 important subjects: Origin, Meaning, Morality, and Destiny. How I was made, Why I was made, What laws I have to uphold, and what my eternity is.

Only Christianity completely answers these 4 subjects. No other religious system pulls it off

Then it must answer to these 3 as well. 1) Logical Consistency, 2) Empirical Adequacy, 3) Experiential relevance (does it apply meaning to your life?) And only Christianity can answer these. I'd get into more later but it's a lot to type ^^ Feel Free to PM me if you wish!

I also want to mention that just because something is called to be "Holy" doesn't mean it's not. There are a lot of false prophets out there. And the gnostic gospels, aka Pseudopygrapha, have been researched, and have been found to be false.

Let me tell you something. There is only ONE system of belief that is true. It is impossible for more than 2 systems to be correct at the same time because they contradict each other to the core. Hinduism, a Polytheistic/Pantheistic Religion (theres a contradiction right there) cannot coexist with a monotheistic religion of Islam. An atheistic system such as Atheism or Buddhism cannot coexist with Christianity. It makes no logical sense whatsoever.

I hope you take the time to read this ^^ I'll be praying

I have found that Christianity is the only way that my life makes any sense. It seems that you are sincerely seeking the truth, and God will honor that. I will definately be praying for you, Seleana. I know that others have already offered this as well, but if you ever want someone to talk to, or even to rant to, my PM box is always open.

look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!â€
