A very sad Christmas

There was a fellow I once knew. Not very well, I'll admit. He married into a family which is rather close to my own. I was there at his wedding, about four years ago.
He died in Iraq on Christmas day. He's left behind a wife and a child of three years.
It's sudden, strange, and tragic. Whilst I was whining about how I only got money for Christmas (and a fair amount, at that) and eating toaster waffles, he was blown up in a tank.
Puts quite a bit into perspective, doesn't it.
Please, pray for his family. They received this news just as they were opening their gifts, which I'm sure mean nothing to them anymore.

That is unfortunate. I'll pray for his loved ones during this time. Do you know if he was saved?

Oh man. That's awfully tragic.
I will definitely pray for God's Spirit to comfort this family and carry them through this difficult and painful time, so that Christmas will not be a painful memory to them but a remembrance that God is always in control no matter what.

Yes, fortunately, he was.

Father,
You are wonderful and You are faithful. Thank You for the lives You grant us. Help us to enjoy them while they last. Teach us Your ways while we are here in this life and comfort us when we can't quite understand what it is You are trying to teach us.
Father, You give, You take, and Your name be blessed. Comfort this family and grant them wisdom that they may know You better.
Amen.

Good to hear that he's saved and they can look forward to being reunited with him someday. I'll pray that God comforts and looks after them in the meantime.

omg! that's terrible! my friend's fiancee is in Iraq, and we haven't heard from him for a while. I dunno what's going on over there, 'cause I never watch the news, and it's always a slap in the face when I hear about something like this. I'm praying for his family.

The funeral is scheduled for this weekend. Instead of being buried in the military cemetery, he'll be buried in the place where other family members are buried, as was his wish.

Well that's good that he gets what he wanted.
