Might go for a master's

Hey. As a lot of you know, I'm still unemployed. Some people I know have even mentioning going back to school and getting a master's degree, and I've turned the idea down. Until now. On the way to lunch today (Sunday) my mom mentioned that it wouldn't be a bad idea to get the degree through Liberty University. I heard from a visiting missionary that there's a way I can earn a degree and not even have to go all the way to Virginia, and that it's cheap or free (I forget). What I'd have to do to qualify is work in a private Christian school, and that takes care of it.
So I'd really appreciate prayers as I look into and consider this. I have a hunch this is something the Lord's been trying to tell me for a while, but even then I still don't want to rush head-on into something that isn't His will. Thanks.

I'll pray that God will guide you. I'm from Virginia, and a high school friend of mine went to Liberty, and she loves it. There's also Regent University (another Christian university) in Virginia, and I'm pretty sure that they have online/distance graduate programs. I was looking into them for graduate degrees in communication, and I'm pretty sure they were offering online opportunities for various areas of study.
Btw, what kind of master's are you pursuing? If you need any advice on applying to grad school (like the essay, application, etc.), maybe I could give you a few pointers. I wished I could have had some help while I was going through it, so I thought I could at least offer.
Keep us updated.

I'm thinking either psychology (maybe) or counseling. I'm not planning on leaving California. I hear if you qualify, they can send you the materials and all.

I'll be praying,
Personally, I'd go for counseling, only because we need more people to talk to, whom are willing to do more then just listen. Thats just me though, I pray God guides your decission.
God Bless,
Archan

Thanks. Right now I've requested information about Liberty. Hopefully they can answer my questions regarding their graduate distant learning programs, 'cause grad school is so expensive. Keep praying!

I actually did something similar to that after college. I didn't end up getting the master's degree, because I got another job offer and was tired of being in school for
so long.
But at least I do have some graduate credits for my resume.
Lifting you up. Keep us posted!

I wish you all the best, but you might want to consider first what you really want to do. In most fields a course-based master's degree is at best considered to be inferior, and a correspondance program to be even further down the list of respectable options. Most graduate programs offer financial aid in the form of research stipends and teaching assistantships, so generally you can expect to be paid to go to school (as I am). It's not exactly big bucks but it'll pay your bills.
