Help! My dad's a Mormon!

Ever since he retired... he's been living up at his and my mom's retirement property in the mountains, in Show Low. The town has a huge Mormon population, and it started with some missionaries coming by the house...
Now, my dad... he was raised a Jehova's Witness, eventually dropped out of that, became a Baptist for a while... and now, is into Mormonism. I do believe that he is saved, but I worry about what he's into now. He's really involved in the Mormon church now (when he lived down here, he rarely ever went to church of any kind).
To tell the truth, I don't know too much about Mormonism. I know a little. I'd like to do research on it, but... I don't want to just research the from those who are "anti". Good research means getting your dope straight from the horse's mouth. I would go and get myself a Book of Mormon to research but... I'm sincerely afraid of doing that. I'm afraid of getting decieved into things I shouldn't be into...
Anyway, my dad's currently doing scripture research because he is meant to assist in a baptism at his Mormon church. I let him borrow my Treasury of Scripture Knowledge (a regular Chrisitan, cannon Bible cross refrence guide), and... if we get into any disscussions, I can always go to the scriptures.
But, anway... prayer would be good. As for the rest of my family... I do not know if they are saved or not... could be good just to blanket prayer my whole family.
It's just that this recent ... total devotion to Mormonism on the part of my dad has got me concerned.

I'll pray that the outcome is a good one, whatever it may be.
While I know little about the Mormons, I think that it would be worthwhile to find out from them what they believe. I would expect that there are members who put up summaries of the church's beliefs and theology. I would probably start there rather than with the Book of Mormon, since the former will offer interpretations and summaries that will guide your understanding of the material (recall the story of the Ethiopian eunuch).
In any event, I think that we should never be afraid of seeking to understand the beliefs of others. Even if we do not agree with them, there is always something to be learned.

Have you ever heard of Chick Tracts? There was one that deals with the topic of Mormonism.
Here it is:

People who've been here long enough probably know my opinion of Chick. I strongly urge people to have nothing to do with him- his tracts are utter rubbish.

I DO strongly disagree with his tracts that say that any version of the bible other than the King James Version is tampered with by Satan...

This part really speaks to me. Truth is, I attended a special "cult awareness" seminar at my church a few years ago, and mormonism was a topic one of the nights. At first I was really interested...mostly because I'd had some run ins with Mormon acquaintances in the past and I wanted to hear more about them (they had an ex-Mormon speaker). But I found myself mid way in the lecture starting to toy with some of their ideas, even feeling myself consider them....and it scared me deeply. So your fears are completely justified; I'll be praying that God strengthens you, informs you, and keeps your heart and spirit safe from Satan's tricks.

Very interesting. What exactly are telestial, terrestial, and cerrestial heavens supposed to be like?

I really don't know much about Mormonism either, Shadsie. Just be cautious as you investigate it, and keep the Lord in heart and mind. I will pray for you and your family.

Well, my dad's up north again, with my mom... and whenever I see him... I guess I'll ask him questions and stuff. He is a newbie mormon, so he probably hasn't been indoctrinated into the beliefs they like to hide from the general public yet. I know a former mormon, so maybe I can get into contact with him.
Umm... Chick tracts... sorry, but I've seen those things before... they offend me too much. The style in which they are written - uber preachy, "everything I don't understand is evil" attitude (for instance, bashing the entire musical genre of rock) ... "Catholics are evil" and such... (Not a Catholic, but has had Catholic friends)... I mean... Chicks is... just... ugh.

Yeah, Chick
 Don't even get me started on him.
He bashes anything he doesn't like, his general approach is hateful and insulting. . .lol, if he knew what anime was, he'd probably be right there raking us over the coals like he does the RPG and rock fans. . .
I think the Mormonism Research Ministry is a good place to find information, I gave you the address a few days ago.

I'll pray for you dad, Shadsie. Always be wary with stuff like mormonism. Read the Bible to talk to your dad and pray, please don't read the Book of Mormon - it will do nothing for you.

I like Christian Rock... but according to this tract if I listen to even Christian rock, I'm going to hell. Baka.

Shadsie one of my best friends is a Mormon we've known each other for >15 years...my family almost became Mormons because of her family's kindness to us but we didn't...we had the missionaries come and meet with us too. I know what it's like to have someone you care about believe in false doctrine..if your dad's a Christian already I don't know if he can lose his salvation by becoming a Mormon as long as he believes Jesus Christ died for his sins. I will pray the Holy Spirit opens his eyes to the TRUTH like He did for me...and I was a brand new Christian that didn't know anything about what the Bible says or any doctrine...yet I knew in my heart there was something wrong...
I wrote a report on Mormonism for my Sunday School class when we were studying cults...it's based on both 'anti-Mormon' and 'pro-Mormon' research, if anyone is interested in reading it I can email to them.
Other than that I'll pray...
