Terri Schiavo - Right to Life?

Postby SonicRose » Sat Mar 19, 2005 7:12 pm

This case has been weighing on my heart since I heard of it and have in fact, been asking for prayers concerning it.

Terri Schiavo has brain damage, and has needed a feeding tube since 1990. She is awake, and aware of her surroundings. On Hannity and Colmes, I saw footage of her, watching a balloon go back and forth. I might even say she almost looks happy. The feeding tube has been removed 4 times previously, always put back under court order.

This time is different. Her Husband (who has two kids by another woman whom he is living with) has insisted that she would not want to live like this, and the feeding tube should be removed to allow her to "die with dignity."

The Family has been fighting for Terri's life, since he's sought to end hers. They have good reason to believe in fact, he was the one who put her in this state (via possible abuse). In spite of how many people have been praying for her, offering support, and even money offers (of even 1 million dollars!) to have the husband give up control over her life, he refuses. A judge ruled the feeding tube be removed, and Congress has stepped in to try and help... the judge may at this point be held in contempt of congress.

This situation demands prayer - I heard a testimony on the Sean Hannity the other day of a woman who was in Terri's position - She was "literally trapped" inside her body. She was conscious of everything that was happening, and she couldn't move a muscle or speak on her own behalf. (Terri herself has had no legal representation) She says she had a feeding tube which they removed, and she remembers how much it hurt. Her husband was the only one fighting for her. In this case, Terri's husband is fighting for death.

President Bush said (paraphrasing) recently that where there is a conflict between life and death, the push should be toward life.

Maybe there is nothing to be done for Terri, but maybe there is. With therapy she might be able to live and move again... Just after the feeding tube was removed, her relatives who were there encouraged her to say "I want to live" and she got as far as "I WAaaaa--" It was so loud the guards outside came in! But the news media isn't/won't report it because of their bias.

If Terri is allowed to die, this will have grave consequences for anyone in questionable health circumstances. We will have the other end of the abortion scale - the right to die. We know who made us, Knit us in our Mother's Womb.

Life is Sacred. Suicide is wrong. Abortion is Wrong. Putting someone to Death, especially by such cruel means as starvation, is an abomination to the Lord.

Whether political (the ramifications of the laws being put into place and the vigilante judges trying to usurp the power of congress), or Personal (Simple right to life)...

I am begging prayers here. We need a Mirical. This sloshes over into elements that could effect your lives later and mine. So I urge persistant prayer on this.

Amen and amen. This woman deserves to live. A political battle? Hardly; this is morality vs. immorality; good vs. evil.

General Admin reminder:

Just like the California thread earlier, this thread is NOT to degrade into political squibbles over who is right in this case. This is to be used for prayer support for Terri ONLY, and if it gets too heated it will be closed, ok?

Why don't we pray for the whole US government, as well. Because in my opinion, they're REALLY overstepping their bounds on this. -.-;;

Well, I guess the best thing would be to pray as Our Lord told us we should "Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven."

May Thy will be done, Father.

We should be doing that as well. It is unfortunate that the suffering of a woman has been lost in the selfish desires of those around her, and the political aspirations of public figures. The whole mess is worthy of a prayer or two. May the Lord grant Terri peace.

i agree... both sides need prayer... i pray there is another way to handle this.. i really hate to see someone suffer by the deprevation of food and water... it is really hard to handle...I just pray that the family listens to God, after all he knows the outcome..

it would be cool if Terry would suddenly say, "I am hungry!" or somethin :sniffle:

I'm praying for her too. When i heard about this I was horrified. We should also pray for her husbands soul. How could he be so hard to watch someone he supposedly loved starve to death. The whole situation is very sad. Gods will be done.

I will be praying. In fact, I just logged in to CAA to post a prayer request for her and found this one already existed. This is really heart-wrenching. And how much worse Terri's family must be feeling as they desparately try to save her life.

I think instead of praying for one side or another to triumph, whether it be her family or her husband, Democrats or Republicans, I believe we should pray that God's will be done and that the judge now in charge of this case makes an informed, well thought out decision. I am personally very sick of seeing "she should live" and "no, she should die" everywhere, because who are we to so hastily interpret the will of our Lord in the long run?

I agree too, we have to pray for both sides, and that God's will be done. Thank you for the support. Her fate is ultimately in the Hands of God, so a few praying Hands wouldn't hurt.

I have heard more and more personal testimonies from nurses and doctors, family and friends, on her condition and how she is far better off and could be far better than her husband's let on.

He definitely needs help, while he is still married to Terri, he has a live-in girlfriend he has two children with (And I pray for their souls as well!), and upon his visits to Terri, has repeatedly asked "Is she dead yet?"

My my... Lord help us all!

My sister told me that Terri schiavo just passed on. I feel sure she has gone to be with God. And at last she is no longer in pain.

Yep, she died about two hours ago, heard it on the John Boy and Billy Show right before they went off the air.

I bet that dude will get shunned now whenever he goes somewhere.

I just heard that she died... I know it is sad, but I personally believed that she was brain-dead, and that their was no hope of her coming back, and that for fifteen years all we have been doing is prolonging her death. I also believe that the soul lies in the brain, and once the brain dies the soul leaves. In that case, her soul left her body fifteen years ago, and what we saw of her was mearly a shell where a soul used to be. I think it was cruel to try and keep that shell alive and that she wouldn't have wanted it.
