One of my favorite speakers once said that being a true friend to someone sometime means telling them the truth about themselves when they don't want to hear it.
He shared a story about his friend confronting him one time [while he was in college] about the language that he was using. He was really mad at his friend at first, but then he realized that his friend was right, and he stopped using bad language. He is now very grateful to his friend for telling him that, and grateful that his friend risked having him be angry, rather than letting him continue in his ways.
