Sick Doggie

Postby yukinon » Wed Sep 07, 2005 9:12 pm

I'm aware that many people may see this request as trite or silly, but frankly, I don't care.

My dog, whom I've had for 12 years, is majorly sick. She's a Chow/German Shepherd mix who has always been silly, stubborn, playful, and full of life. She's loving and ditzy (she has blonde roots in that fur, I swear) and can escape anything as well as Houdini. She always has a trick up her 'sleeve' and a doggie grin on her face.

Recently, and very suddenly, she quit eating. She's lost much of her weight, her eyes and coat are dull, she's limping slightly, and she barely moves or does anything, really.

My parents took her to the vet today (I'm away at college) and the vet said she either has kidney failure or cancer.

Her name is Teddy, because she looked like a teddy bear as a puppy. She's a good dog, and I don't want her to suffer or be miserable. I've had a hard year and I'm sick and tired of losing things. I just want my girl to be ok.

That's not silly or trite at all! I'll pray for your dog!

Neither is a good diagnosis and there isn't much one can do in either case :( ... does she appear to be in any pain, or is she still relatively comfortable?

This isn't trite or silly. My parents got a cat for me when I was 2 years old. When I was 22 and at college, she also lost a lot of weight and the vet said she was in kidney failure. So she was a part of my family for twenty years. I completely understand what you're going through. I think pets become part of the family. I'm praying for you and Teddy.

No, prayer for a beloved pet isn't silly at all. My dog is as healthy as a horse, 'cept for the area in her joints effected with arthritis. It would kill me if something bad like cancer happened to her.

I'll be praying for Teddy.

I know how difficult this situation can be, and I'll be praying for her, yukinon.
