Awww, boy do I know how you feel! I went through a lot of this last year, and this year I'm moving 5 hours away to a new college (which means moving out and into a dorm) so I totally relate to a lot of what you say.
Freshman 15: I'm already overweight a little bit, I don't need to gain more weight.
Actually, you'll do a lot of walking around on campus, which ought to help. It's all up to you and how well you can keep up with a regular intake of food. No matter how much studying you have, try to make sure you have time to eat regularly and keep your metabolism going. Also, several schools have a workout center or offer PE classes; perhaps this could be an option, too.
Making/Losing friends: BIG one for me. I'm worried about making friends and then having them betray me or stop liking me. I'm also worried about losing my high school friends that are really close to me.
I'm not going to lie, you probably will stop being close friends with some of your buddies from high school. But you know what, that's ok. You'll find yourself hanging out with new people at your new school, and if you and your friends both make an effort to keep in contact, you can. People aren't like they are in high school--the majority of college students want to be there, are bright and intelligent, and most of all most of them can commit to being a good friend.
Grades/work load: I know college is going to be nothing like high school, and my procrastination habits are getting worse and worse every year. I also can't study to save my life. I mean, I can sit down and try, but I forget everything I went over if I take a break. Cramming is my only way of studying and sometimes that doesn't even help sometimes.
The best thing to do is to take information in on little chunks. Review your notes after lecture, focusing on the important parts. When you have a big test, plan time to study every night for like, a week or two before hand. When you study, review small bits of information again and again, adding to them slightly. Kind of like flashcards--you add a new flash card or two every day, and eventually you'll know them all. What also might help (it did wonders for me) is to buy a planner or organizer. Write down your homework, when it's due, and schedule time to do it around your job or church activities, and stick to it! It's a tremendous help to know exactly what needs to get done and when.
Those are just a few but there is defenitly more.
I'm really scared about college. And I don't know how to convince myself that it's all going to be okay eventually.
If you guys could pray for me to help ease my fears and pains, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
I know, college is a scary place. So much is changing all at once! But it's really, really fun, too. You'll have such a blast! Don't let Satan rob you of this excitement! I'll be praying for you though, and you can always PM me about any specific fears or questions about college you might have. I'd love to answer them. ^^
