Volt, first of all this is a prayer forum. Not an advice column. I realize advice may come with the territory, but its first and foremost job is to alert people to the needs of others that they can fulfill in prayer.
Secondly, if you feel like giving advice, make sure it is sound, Godly advice, and preferrably in a situation YOU HAVE BEEN THROUGH. I don't know all of your family history, but I can say--having dealing with family members who are difficult--that your advice would have made the situation worse. As Rev Doc pointed out, there are better alternatives than "smacking some sense into him" or "Be strict and open and tell him what a bad job he's doing". That is not her role; that is her mother or pastor's job.
So to get straight to the point: more prayer, less unneccessary, unwise advice. Why am I being so stringent about this? Because this is the forum that has the most potential to truly change peoples lives, for the better or worse. Prayer is an incredible powerful tool, and advice is too.
