God wrote:I Samuel 30:1-6: David and his men arrived in Ziklag on the third day. The Amalekites had raided the Negev and attacked and burned down Ziklag. They also had kidnapped the women and everyone in it from the youngest to the oldest. They had killed no one but had carried them off as they went on their way.
When David and his men arrived at the town, they found it burned down. Their wives, sons, and daughters had been kidnapped. David and the troops with him wept loudly until they had no strength left to weep. David's two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelite and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had also been kidnapped. David was in a difficult position because the troops talked about stoning him, for they were all very bitter over [the loss of] their sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God.
This could be one of the most terrifying situations to be in. Your whole home town is destroyed, your wives, children, brothers, sisters, all taken captive. The women are possibly being raped by their captors (as is common in war). Everything you owned has been stolen, and everyone around you cries till they don't even have the energy to be able to cry. To cap it all off, people are thinking about beating you to death with stones. One big huge mishmash of the most horrible things put together on one person, but yet, this one person turned to God and was able to overcome ALL of it.
To me, this is one of the most positively clear passages proving that God alone is sufficient even in the worst of times to encourage a despairing soul. I think a lot of members here would admit that they don't go through things like worrying if their wife/girlfriend is being raped, so let me say this. Whatever you're going through, think of these things. And know, that whatever situation you're in, if David could find comfort in God, you certainly can.
I've got to do other stuff now. May God continue to bless the study of his word, and those weary souls that long for his care.
