Unhealthy Addiction...

Postby Okami » Wed Dec 26, 2007 1:55 pm

So a lot of you know the things I've struggled with, and if not, just see the General Lust/Depression Prayer Threads...

But just now it's hit me. Where a LOT of this comes from.

The computer.

You see, on another Christian forum I keep a progress Journal; for lust, for self-injury, for anything going on in my life. Some of my theories and ideas have been tested there...stirring anger in me, a bit of jealously, sadness, and sometimes very triggering thoughts.

That goes for all that I struggle with. So in the end, it can all relate back to this portal on my lap.

The thing is, I'm addicted to the computer. Mom recently stated this to my face and I denied it. But it's true. It's so true.

And it's unhealthy. I'll look away from the clock and the next thing I know, it's closing in to two hours later. I predict if I continue this, I'm going to get dragged back into places I don't want to be.

Please pray that God would give me a continuing sense of time whenever I am on. That He would have full control over the websites I go, and the emotions I wear when at these sites. I need to be more open-minded and accepting of others' thoughts and opinions, because I'm not always right. :shady:

Thanks guys.

I'll be praying for you Okami. Not just the computer, but anything entertaining can become addictive. We just gotta know when to draw the line.

Aww, Okami-chan! D: I'm sorry you're still having a hard time.

I agree with Momo-P; it's all about setting limits. Maybe you could try not using the computer for a week or putting a clock right in front of you or something?

>_> I am addicted to my computer...but only because that's how I do my artwork...<_<

I think we all need to set limits... sometimes I will go days without being interested in my computer at all... I actually feel happy when that happens XD it's nice to spend time with the family.

Don't worry so much, Just trust in God and He WILL help you.

Well, you could try to cut back on how many sites require active participation. For example, if you are having a discussion blog on one site, a prayer thread on another, etc., then cut back to just one. Of course, I think I speak for others that we would rather the "one site" be here. Trying the manage multiple sites is like trying to manage multiple close personal relationships. It takes a lot of time and can be quite draining. I just stick with this one. I know there's a bunch of people out there that keep a Deviant Art page, MySpace, some other personal page, Facebook, etc., but I don't see how you can do more than one justice without divorcing yourself from life.

Time to prune.

Used to be really addicted to the ole computer myself (in truth, it comes back to strike me at the worst times), but I know you can do it.....

Sometimes, the best way to help urself here is to try getting involved in things in real life, and possibly maybe even an event that's a week long (like say a church retreat or something)...As it is, I'm going to one this week and a half and am actually lookin forward to taking a break from the computer....

You know, I just realized something like that myself yesterday. I was shutting down the computer in my room before leaving leaving for Georgia (I'm at my grandparents at this very moment) and it hit me just how long it's been since the last time that thing WASN'T on.

One thought led to another and brought me to the same place you are: giving that much time over to the interweb and forming that many deep seated habits opens a LOT of doors. How I'm going to deal with this, I don't know yet, but I'll be praying for you!

*switches out the cd in her drive for another* My Lord...all I've done today is install updates and upload new cds XD;;

So I think I'm going to take a few days off, probably right after newyears.
I need to limit a lot. =/

I understand. I have an addictive personality. That's why I try to limit myself to 2 hours on the computer at a time. I have to be careful with video games too. I remember one of my friends let us borrow his GameCube for a month. Pretty much all my roommate and I did was play it in our spare time. What a waste of time.
I agree with getting involved in your community. There are many, many hurting people out there. I have to remember to see people as ministry and not scenery or machinery. I find that not focusing on myself helps me use time a little better.
Dang, Okami. We sure do have a lot in common...are you sure we're not distantly related or something?
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
